Spectacular container garden arrangements

Container Garden News is one of my new favorite gardening websites.  Not that I needed too much convincing, but I am really loving planting container gardens rather than planting in the ground.

I'm totally in love with the container in the photo.  Since red is my favorite color, the shades of red and purple in the container are so strikingly beautiful and immediately caught my eye.  Usually, I will incorporate red into my container plantings by painting the containers red, but the beauty of this container has convinced me to try a combination of red leafed plants and red flowering plants.  The Captain surprised me with gorgeous caladiums with red centers that will work perfectly!

The photo comes from the website Power Flowers.  Click here to check out the website.

Future posts will definitely feature more container gardening inspiration and I hope to include my new creations soon!

Upcycled and unusual container plants

Trash cans as containers for plants are something I love to use in my garden (except mine are used and much older looking with lots of dents and dings).  I paint mine to make them prettier!  Love the idea of rollers on the bottom . . . great idea since the bigger ones really get heavy and difficult to move.

Before you go out to the store and spent way too much on new containers, check out DIY's website for some great ideas for items you may already have at home . . .

DIY Concrete Containers

Making concrete planters has to be one of the most satisfying and useful crafts ever.

I love the selection of molds in this video!

Once you make a couple, your imagination will go wild with all kinds of stuff to use to for molds to make not only containers, but pavers and decorative border pavers for your plant beds and excellent for raised beds!  After a couple of years, they become awesome memories of previous seasons.

With so much to do and so little time to devote to the garden, I sincerely hope that I can get my hand in the concrete to make some memories for my garden.

This video is an excellent guide from HGTV . . . check it out!

Shell Pot for Succulents

This is the perfect time of the year to bring the outdoors in
as well as summer memories of the beach.

I found this awesome shell terracotta pot on Katie Brown's website
which is perfect for those succulents you want to bring inside or
put out on your patio.

Materials

Terra cotta pots
Assorted seashells
Tacky glue
Sand
Potting soil
Assorted succulents

Tools

Paint brush
Hot glue gun

Getting Started

1. Using a paint brush and tacky glue, coat the bottom of your terra cotta pot. Leave the lip of the pot plain (this is where you will attach your shells). Roll pot in sand to completely coat the pot. Repeat process if you feel the need for a heavier coat of sand.

2. Apply hot glue to the edges of your seashells and attach them to the lip of your terra cotta pot.

3. Using a broken or discarded shell, cover the bottom hole in your terra cotta pot.

4. Fill pot with regular potting soil, and loosen roots on the bottom of your succulent. Transfer succulent and water.
